Imotara · Privacy
Imotara is built on a simple promise: your feelings are yours. We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the product, and we put consent, clarity, and control in your hands. Imotara is being designed for young people and families, not for ad-tracking or selling data.
This page explains how data is handled in the current Imotara experience. If we introduce new data flows in the future, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.
Imotara is currently operated independently from India. For privacy-related inquiries, you may contact us at info@imotara.com.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Imotara web application, the Imotara iOS and Android mobile applications, and any cloud sync services associated with Imotara. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that may be linked from within the app.
We collect information only when necessary to provide the service.
Account information (optional)
Imotara can use an anonymous sign-in identifier to keep your synced data separated without requiring email or phone. If you choose to upgrade to a full account in the future (where available), we may collect an email address for authentication.
Anonymous identifier (default)
Imotara may generate or use an anonymous sign-in identifier to keep your data separated and to support optional cloud sync, without requiring your real name, email, or phone.
User content
When you use Imotara, you may choose to enter chat messages, journal entries, reflections, emotion logs, and mood history. You control what you choose to enter.
Voice (optional)
If you tap the microphone, Imotara records what you say so it can be turned into text. On Android and iOS the recording is sent to our server and on to OpenAI to be transcribed; it is not stored, by us or by them, once the text comes back. On the web, speech is handled by your own browser's built-in speech recognition, which may send the audio to your browser vendor under their privacy policy rather than ours. When Imotara reads a reply aloud, the text of that reply is sent to Microsoft Azure Speech to be turned into audio. The microphone is never opened unless you ask for it, and you can use Imotara entirely by typing.
Device & technical data
To keep the app reliable, we may collect basic diagnostic data such as app version, device type, operating system version, crash reports, and anonymous performance metrics. We do not collect advertising identifiers for tracking purposes.
Where Imotara is used
We count how many times Imotara is opened in each country and region, so we know which languages and regions to support next. This comes from the network your request arrives on, not from your phone's location service — Imotara never asks for location permission, and turning location off changes nothing about this.
We do not store your coordinates, your city, your IP address, or any link between a place and you. What is kept is a daily tally — for example, “412 opens from West Bengal on Android today” — with nothing in it that identifies a person, which is why there is nothing here to export or delete at an individual level. Because it is based on the network, it reflects where a request came from rather than where you are: a VPN or an office connection will place you somewhere else.
Imotara is designed to prioritize local processing. On both web and mobile, chat history, emotion logs, and preferences may be stored locally on your device to provide continuity and a better experience.
If you uninstall the app (mobile) or clear browser storage (web), locally stored data may be removed.
When cloud sync is enabled, Imotara stores a private copy of selected data on secure servers to support backup and multi-device continuity. Cloud sync is optional and can be turned off at any time.
Imotara uses artificial intelligence models to generate reflective and supportive responses to the messages you choose to enter. Some processing may occur locally on your device. When cloud mode is enabled, your message text is sent to OpenAI (openai.com) to generate a reply, or to Google (Gemini) if OpenAI is unavailable or too slow to answer. Only your message text is sent — your name, account identifier and device information are not attached.
Your conversations are not sold and are not used for advertising systems. We use both services on paid business terms under which your messages are processed solely to generate your reply and are not used to train their models. You can switch to device-only mode at any time in Settings to prevent any data from leaving your device.
Automated responses may not always be perfect. Imotara is designed as a supportive companion and does not provide medical, legal, or crisis advice.
Depending on your jurisdiction, we process information to provide the service, based on user consent (for optional features), performance of the service, legitimate interests in security and reliability, and compliance with legal obligations where applicable. Marketing email is sent on the basis of consent alone. You may withdraw consent for optional cloud features, or for marketing email, at any time.
We send two kinds of email, and they are governed differently.
For updates we store your email address, how we came to have it, and when. Where you signed up through the form at /updates, we also record the time and the IP address the submission came from — that is our record that consent was actually given, and we keep it for as long as we hold the address, plus a short period afterwards as evidence that we stopped when asked.
Every update email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and most email apps also offer an unsubscribe button beside our name. Either takes effect immediately, including for messages already queued. You do not need to sign in or give a reason. Withdrawing consent for updates does not affect your account or essential messages.
Local data remains on your device unless you delete it or uninstall the app, or clear browser storage.
Cloud-synced data is kept for as long as your account is active, because your mood history over months and years is the part of Imotara that gets more useful with time. We do not delete the history of people who are using the app.
If an account shows no activity for 24 months, we email the address on it to say the data is about to be removed. If there is still no activity 30 days after that email, the account and its cloud data are permanently deleted. You can stop this at any point simply by signing in.
You can also delete everything yourself at any time, without waiting — see Your Rights & Controls below. That removal is immediate and permanent.

Manage data & privacy
These controls affect the data Imotara uses in this browser and, where available, any synced copy for this experience. You stay in control here.
This saves a copy of your chats and emotion history that are stored locally in this browser. Nothing new is uploaded anywhere.
If Imotara keeps a synced history for this app in the cloud, this downloads that copy as a JSON file. If no remote data exists yet, the file will say so.
This asks Imotara to clear any synced/remote history for this app (if such a copy exists). It does not touch data stored only on this browser.
This only deletes Imotara data on this browser. You can always start fresh and keep using the app.
Imotara is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
We do not sell personal data. The service providers listed below help us run the app and deliver optional features, under contractual safeguards and our instructions. Each one receives only what it needs for the job next to its name.
We may disclose information if required by law, to prevent harm, or to protect platform integrity.
Imotara is run from India, and several of the providers listed above operate from the United States and the European Union, so your data may be processed outside the country you live in. Where that happens we rely on the data protection terms those providers offer — including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses where they apply — to keep the protection consistent with the law that covers you.
Spoken replies are sent to whichever Azure Speech region is closest to you — India, the European Union, the United States or the Asia-Pacific region — so that audio travels the shortest distance it can.
We use encrypted communication (HTTPS/TLS), access limitation, and infrastructure safeguards to protect your information. No system can guarantee absolute security, but we continuously improve protections.
We may update this policy as features evolve. We’ll post the new version here and, when appropriate, notify you in-app or via email.
